Imane Ayissi - Cameroon

Imane Ayissi, inspired by Cameroon’s rich artistic and athletic heritage, began his journey with the Ballet National du Cameroun before pursuing a successful modeling career with renowned brands such as Cardin, Dior, and Givenchy. His true passion, however, lies in couture and design, where his Cameroonian roots continue to inspire his distinctive creations.

Loza Maléombho - Côte d'Ivoire

Raised in Brazil and Abidjan, Loza Maléombho’s multicultural background shaped her fashion journey. After studying in the United States and gaining experience in New York, she returned to Côte d’Ivoire in 2009 for fresh inspiration. Her designs celebrate cultural identity, drawing especially from West African royalty and traditions.

Fashion, Culture, and Empowerment

Loza Maléombho’s label blends contemporary fashion with traditional African aesthetics, including footwear inspired by African masks. By collaborating with generational artisans, she combines creativity with traditional craftsmanship while supporting local communities. Her work gained global recognition when Beyoncé featured one of her designs in Black Is King, highlighting her commitment to cultural preservation and empowerment.

Laduma Ngxokolo - South Africa

Born in Port Elizabeth, Laduma Ngxokolo discovered textile design while in high school in 2003. His talent for knitwear earned him scholarships from Cape Wools South Africa and Mohair South Africa while studying for his BTech at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in 2010.

Celebrating Xhosa Culture Through Knitwear

In 2010, Laduma Ngxokolo won the South African round of the SDC Design Competition and later took the global title in London with The Colourful World of the Xhosa Culture, a knitwear collection inspired by Xhosa beadwork. He later founded Maxhosa AFRICA, gaining international recognition and showcasing at New York Fashion Week. His designs are also featured in collections at the Smithsonian and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, highlighting his influence on contemporary African fashion.

Lisa Folawiyo - Nigeria

Lisa Folawiyo is a Nigerian fashion designer known for vibrant ready-to-wear and accessories that blend Ankara-inspired prints, modern tailoring, and intricate embellishments. After studying law at the University of Lagos, she founded Jewel by Lisa in 2005 and created her first pieces with her mother using just 12 yards of fabric.

Modernizing West African Textiles

Lisa Folawiyo has gained international recognition, including a 2012 feature in Vogue Italia. Her designs blend West African textiles such as Ankara and Aso Oke with modern silhouettes and embellishments, earning her a presence on international red carpets and leading fashion platforms.

Katungulu Mwendwa - Kenya

Katungulu Mwendwa is a Kenyan fashion designer known for contemporary African-inspired designs. Raised in Nairobi, she developed a strong connection to Kenyan culture and local craftsmanship. After studying fashion in London, she returned to Kenya to launch her fashion line and gained international recognition, including at New York Fashion Week.
